$1.9 Million NOAA Sea Grant Awarded to PolyGone Systems (04/21/23)
PolyGone Systems is pleased to announce our acceptance of a $1.9 million grant award from the National Sea Grant Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Marine Debris Challenge Competition. We share this award with the New York Sea Grant (NYSG), (PI), a cooperative program between the State University of New York, Cornell University, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, funding cutting-edge research for coastal stakeholders with extension and outreach programming to those who work, live, and play in the coastal area of New York State.
PolyGone will use this funding to optimize, manufacture, and deploy full-scale pilots of our artificial root filtration device, in both wastewater effluent streams and polluted tributaries across the Hudson River Watershed. Teaming with NYSG, we will ensure that those who live, work, and recreate in the watershed are educated about this project and engaged in the co-production of knowledge around our innovative technology.
PolyGone is beyond excited to begin this collaboration with NYSG. Our upcoming pilot tests with the Atlantic County Utility Authority, University of Toronto and Dalhousie University, and GPA Seabots will further refine our technology in the field, so that we can carry out successful pollution remediation and citizen science education in the Hudson River Watershed, a drinking water source supporting over 100,000 people and home to rich plant and wildlife biodiversity.
